How to Improve Mind-Body Connection with Yoga: 5 Steps

Needless to say, the mind and body are closely interconnected with each other. The constant interaction between the two is significant because both affect the health of each other. Understanding the unbreakable bond between the two and how the one influences the other gives us the control to strengthen the connection.
In the Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali Yoga Sutras, the texts say, the goal of the human beings is to attain clear understanding, strength and clarity which can be optimally achieved from a strong mind-body connection.
According to these texts, Yoga is an Indian body-mind practice, which can help individuals strengthen their mind-body connection naturally. The yoga practices affect mind-body levels on an equal basis resulting in stronger and deeper mind-body connectedness.
Here’s the five-step procedure to follow for yogic mind-body connection:
1.Practice Yoga Asanas: Mind-Body integration refers to the creation of a healthy dialogue between the thoughts of mind and cells of the body. For a healthy connection, it is imperative that you become aware of the thoughts occurring and how to respond to it. This goal can be achieved with the practice of yoga asanas. The yoga poses hush the mental chatter and stimulates the functioning of vital organs. The effect of the yoga on the brain and its resultant positive effect on the health pave way for a deeper mind-body connection. Also, becoming aware of your practice and working towards perfection with your range of limits is your chance to tap into your reactions and how you choose to respond to it.
2. Become Aware of Inhalations and Exhalations: How often in a day do you pay attention to your breath? In yoga, breath awareness is an important practice to cultivate mind-body connection. Becoming aware of each inhalation and exhalation in Pranayama exercises and yoga poses is an activity tied to mental cognition. With deep breaths, you nourish your body and mind. While the inward attention facilitates in the action of letting go in order to quiet the mind. So, with breath attention you cultivate a restful awareness, you expand the vital energy and observe the sensations of the present moment — all that results in improved mind-body connection.
3. Meditate For Deep Bonds: Meditation is the yogic technique of ceasing the fluctuations of the mind by becoming a witness to each thought that occurs during the meditation. As you comfortably sit and meditate with dedication, you slowly start to understand your thinking pattern and how it, in turn, influences your body health. In meditation, develop heightened concentration and gratitude for yourself and things around. With concentration, you make choices that are good for your body and mind that keeps them healthy and harmonious.
4. Read Yoga Sutras: The Sadhana Pada of Yoga Sutra claims that “the easiest way to access the psyche is through the physical tissues.” The Asanas in Sutras means a seat that is stable and happy. When we practice the pose according to the Patanjali Yoga Sutra, we acknowledge that it is the posture for the mind as well and not just physical. Next, it teaches to slow down and enjoy the posture, instead of putting extra effort to master the pose. When we practice the pose in the right manner as detailed out in the classical texts, we develop a mind that positively influences the body. In this manner, the readings of Yoga Sutras assist you in the right practice of asanas that foster a healthy mind-body connection.
5. Consume a Yogic Diet: In many cultures across the globe, food plays a dual role which is both physical and spiritual. In the midst of conflicting choices on what to eat and what not to, listen to the voice of your intuitive self. Our intuition reminds us to slow down, listen to the body cues and consume food best for the soul. Eat foods for your dosha and chakra. Vata dominant should eat warm, soothing foods like wheat, all oils, etc. Pitta people can choose from cool or warm delicacies like apple juice, cold cereal. And Kapha can ingest light food such as green leafy vegetables, legumes. Eating foods according to your dosha and chakra helps in balancing them that paves way for a stable mind-body connection.
Practicing yoga for any reason is good. Developing a stronger mind-body connection through yoga in 5 steps is even better.
